Creating a community of student activists
The Iowa Student Learning Institute aims to revolutionize Iowa's approach to education through the power of student voice. Through annual events, year-round advocacy, and strategic community partnerships, the organization connects students with real-world action.
The Iowa Student Learning Institute was the first organization of its kind. A brand hadn't been previously been defined for this nonprofit category, so I had complete flexibility over how to define the messaging.
I begin every project by defining a set of keywords to guide my design. The keywords for this project are:
The resulting brand for IowaSLI is clean, crisp, and friendly. The website is easy to navigate and puts the nonprofit keywords front and center. The soft color palette is balanced with the jagged Futura font that is used to promote activism.
The Iowa Student Learning Institute is positioned as the leader of state level student-run nonprofits and inspired similar nonprofits across the country. IowaSLI has since had over 1,500 event attendees and $20,000 in new sponsorship money. The evergreen brand continues to play into new event and program designs.
